Safety case consultancy and preparation -The development of safety cases and the improvement of safety by prevention, control and mitigation of incidents is best achieved by an understanding of the hazards, their possible consequences and the hardware that might provide the mitigation, perhaps by structural strengthening. Our experience of the development of safety cases and of the strengthening of structures will be beneficial to operators preparing their safety cases. <top>

Codes and Standards -GCL are deeply involved with the preparation of codes and standards. David Galbraith is the Project Leader for the development of ISO 19902 for fixed steel offshore structures and of ISO 19901-3 for offshore topsides structures. GCL are developing these standards together with other parts of ISO 19901 as parts of a comprehensive world wide suite of standards for the design of offshore installations. Materials and techniques - Development of new solutions is an exciting discipline and often requires the involvement of several different organisations with different knowledge and capabilities. Such projects require technically intensive management with equal concentration on identifying and solving technical issues and on conventional attention to cost and schedule—successful projects require these aspects to be balanced and our experience well fits us to this role, including scope definition, selection and recommendation of researchers and contractors as well as cost and schedule management within operators requirements. <top>

Decommissioning and reuse - Our involvement with decommissioning goes back some 10 years, initially with engineering issues and development of cost estimates, but subsequently broadening into the environmental, political and public opinion areas. David Galbraith was a member of the Offshore Decommissioning Communications Project (ODCP) while the fate of Brent Spar was being debated. <top>
Expert witness - With our rare mix of design, analysis, fabrication and installation, inspection and maintenance, and operational experience we are able to offer clients an expert witness service covering many of the areas of offshore or marine activity. <top>
Asset operation - Many oil and gas operators have the necessary expertise within their organisations to address issues that GCL can assist with, however GCL can provide a valuable resource additional to individual assets, either for the operator, or to their partners who may not have access to independent knowledge and experience. <top>
